hello!

i'm making these little balls. they hang from my ceiling but they almost touch the ground. i want to put lots and lots of them all together in a closet or some little space.

here are some trees, on an island, in the water.

question for you: (help!)
i want to take a second job, but i can't decide which to go for...

1. koko bakery (they serve chinese bakery bread, milk tea, shaved ice)
2. the new sasa japanese restaurant at shaker square
3. trader joe's signage artist

which one ??

the playroom

lately, i've been thinking that it would be really great if i could grow trees in my apartment. they'd just grow up to the ceiling, and then continue to grow across the ceiling. i guess the roots would get too big for any pot, so your whole floor would be a pot... and there would probably be lots of bugs, and that would be gross... but i still like the idea of a tree ceiling.

sketch from the farmer's market

i love new traditions (don't laugh at me if you're from AG).
my newest one: going to shaker square down the block from our apt every sat morning for the farmer's market. we bring big grocery bags and pick out our peaches, huge overgrown tomatoes, sweet corn, maybe some zucchini or green beans or even spaghetti...stop by dave's if we've missed anything...then we walk the little block back to the apartment and cook up a huuuge brunch for ourselves and anyone that wants to join =)

Atwater Galleries Summer Party

28 July 2007

Saturday 28th July, 4:00-8:00pm

Atwater Village: 3015-3407 Glendale Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90039
Gallery Hours: All Gallery hours varies (please contact gallery for business hours)

Los Angeles – The first summer Atwater art walk presented by The Atwater Galleries will take place Saturday, July 28th, from 4 to 8 pm. JFerrari Gallery, Black Maria Gallery, Little Bird Gallery and Pounder Koné Art Space will be the host the Atwater Galleries Summer Party.

jFerrari Gallery: Dedicated to exhibiting works by mid-career and emerging contemporary artists. jFerrari is located at The Complex now showing a group exhibition of landscape paintings, Earthly Delights. There will be live music and live paintings by artist, Dan Wooster.

Black Maria Gallery: Focused on non-mainstream art that reverberates with the shock of the new. This is the opening reception for The Re-run Show, featuring works from memorable past exhibitions. An open bar and food will be provided along with HM Selecta spinning cool afternoon tunes and even maybe a surprise performance piece by Ladyspoke. Don’t forget to check out the new Black Maria store right next door.

Little Bird Gallery: The latest addition to the Atwater Galleries will be presenting a solo show featuring new works by Thomas Mulvane. Little bird focuses on the artist as more as an individual, offering guidance and growth in an environment without constraints or censorship. The gallery will be hosting an open bar and will have live music.

Pounder Koné ArtSpace: A creative meeting art space for artists, writers and musicologists alike with a focus on introducing artists from the Diaspora and local Angelino artists. This is the closing reception for Fully Fledged, an all women group show with Pamela Mower Conner, Artis Lane, Dominique Moody, Echiko Ohira, and Franceska Schifrin.

****Special edition to the event located just over the Hyperion Bridge (2876 Rowena Avenue):

Truxtop & Co., Artmongers: Strives to provide a small respite from the mundane: a break from the mainstream by creatively refueling and providing an artistic forum. Truxtop presents Flags Unflown: a group show of over 50 local artists, all starting with identical panels of wood cut to the dimensions of the American flag, let loose in a fantastic dog-pile of individual expression.

Sheep.

American Greetings has a system called Iris that is similar to stock image sites like Getty and Veer. It's compiled from all the art that has ever been created for AG cards. I found this while looking for cute Easter images of sheep =)

my new apartment!

here it is! my first ever apartment =)

ms.costa's cute little chair that used to sit in her cubicle, hauled all the way from st. louis to la to cleveland =)

plants plants plants! the big one is an "antherium" - it's like a calalilly, except it has small pink flowers. the tiny one is a mix of succulents . do you see the little bird in the frame? it's from miss linda solivic =) geez it's been 3 years and i still don't know how to use my camera... all my pictures are really blurry up close. it only focuses when i use flash, but i don't like using flash because the lighting gets all ugly.

i got this beautiful desk and dresser set from a shop nearby. it's in a long row of antique shops just around the corner from my house. my neighborhood is so random.. walking three minutes in each direction leads you to a completely different world. north is a huge park built around a lake - you can see baby geese and ducks all over =) east: million dollar houses. south: shaker square (it's actually a circle...) with lots of cute little restaurants, a market, gallery, and little movie theatre. west: bad area with antique shops, tarot reading places, a "church usher's society"???. it might be hard to tell but the little cloth trees propped up on the left side of the picture are from wing's original children's book idea =)

my newest art project! i'm painting with acrylic and scalpeling them out of bristol board. i want to make a piece for my wall... i don't know exactly what i'm doing yet... but i love jill bliss trees.

Sweet restaurant oranges

How do Chinese restaurants always get their dessert oranges right? I've never once had a sour orange. Do they slice up the orange normally but leave out a little slice so someone in the kitchen can eat it to make sure the whole orange is sweet? Is there an orange taster in the kitchen? Or do they have a secret contract with supermarkets to always get the sweet ones? Is there some kind of information that farmers, supermarkets, and Chinese restaurants are holding out on us on how to tell whether or not an orange is going to be sweet?
